OK. I am anxious to start. Today I listened to some of the Congressional Black Caucus meeting that was broadcast on C-Span. Among others, Charlie Rangel and Hillary Clinton spoke. It's always amazing to actually listen to what they say. They rail against President Bush for his failures to identify and help the poor black people in Louisiana. It's hard to get past the fact that this is a Democratic stronghold and has been for years. It's also, according to reports, pretty well known for a level of corruption that is... well... unacceptable.
The one thing that I agreed with them about was the voting identification cards that are being considered in some states. With all the goofy things we spend money on, the one thing that we should make available to anyone who wants it, is the unencumbered right of access to the polling place. That does not mean that I want everyone to vote. I actually prefer that people who do not think through and understand the issues, do not vote at all. I am not one who has a problem with our "dismal voting turnout". I like it. I want those to vote who have researched and understand the people and things that are on the ballot.
Anyway, Charlie Rangel told the story of walking the march with MLK. He says that he didn't want to, but was shamed into it. He is now grateful that he did. How will you feel later if you don't do the hard thing now when you are asked? That same message applies to conservatives. In fact, conservatives are usually busy raising their families. So we have to have people step out a little.
More later.
