Sports in General

Lakers -- I still love 'em. Even though they are now heartbreakers. They played very well for 3 quarters on Friday night against a pretty good TWolves team. But they could not maintain it through the fourth quarter and dropped a very winnable game. #8 is my favorite player in the world. That said, I want him to approach a triple double nightly. I think he needs to think more in terms of Magic than Michael. If he does that, he will still get the Michael credit because he can do things that no one else can even consider doing on the court. But the assists and boards will make this team a winner. He is saying all the right things about patience and a young team etc. But then he takes the ball away from them when the pressure hits. He will have to suffer a little to get the role players to buy in and develop the confidence they need to be Steve Kerr, Luc Longley, et.al. Man I love it though.

Hart High School Indians -- Playing their cross-town rivals the Canyon Cowboys for the Division II Southern California CIF Championship next Friday night at the Home Depot Center. Two good teams. Hart played a great game against a very highly rated (#2 in the US per USA Today) Mission Viejo team and dominated them, winning 24-12 (the 12 included a last second self-imposed safety to avoid turning the ball over to the Diablos at the end of the game. I will finish up thoughts on this after the big game next week.

Random Thoughts

I am getting to a low point in my political news junkie cycle. I am tired of hearing the same thing over and over again. Why is ALL the "debate" reduced to 2 talking heads talking (or usually yelling) over one another? And they are only hitting on the most superficial talking points anyway, so it seems like a big waste of time.

I miss the days of "Firing Line" and WFB's smart debates on every subject under the sun. An hour and a half on Sunday afternoon during my college years were often spent on the floor in front of my little black and white tv totally engaged in the serious, funny, mind-expanding world of ideas and smart people. I wonder if it might not be worthwhile to re-run some of those shows... The discussions of still relevant topics could be very interesting.

I am sure I will get back to Rush and Prager and Hugh, but for now, I am going to try to read little more.
