AL 5 - NL 4 ....... rats!!
OK, today’s hard news is important, but maybe not as important as the fact that the National League dropped its tenth All Star game in a row. And they had a shot at it too (thanks to some impressive final inning pitching by K-Rod). Oh well, another Series in the AL park. Still, I love the baseball system.
Tyler likes the NBA version of the all star game where the east plays the west. It occurred to me that the MLB system of two different leagues has great advantages for the sport. Even if my team (Padres) doesn’t make it to the World Series, I am still a National League guy and I will root for the Pirates over the Mariners if they are in the biggest game. Because nobody should ever have to play using that wimpy “designated hitter” escape from strategy and decision making and missing the just plain fun of watching pitchers hit. There is a built in baseball fan audience for the World Series. In basketball, with San Antonio playing Cleveland, I had no dog in the hunt.
Baseball has a better idea.
