Today's Most Amazing Story

Bill Bennett did nothing wrong. All the blogs and all the newsies agree that Bill Bennett is a good man and not racist (see Kos). They say he clearly did not have any intent to argue in support of abortion for any reason. They also agree that what Bennett said was true. If black babies were aborted, our crime rate would be reduced. The outrage is over the fact that people are offended that he would say it out loud. Their feelings were (or might be) hurt.

"The insensitivity demonstrated, even by good intelligent Center Left bloggers, to the issues of race, is, in my view, an exacerbation to the very real problems we face. The power of words, in our Brave New Anti-PC World, is dismissed. The hurt caused, the distrust fomented, is discounted.
I don't understand it." Daily Kos 09-30-05.

At least he admits that he doesn't understand it. There can be no debate in this country because everyone is afraid to speak. The liberal side of the country if far more restrictive of civil rights than the conservative side. If you say the wrong thing you are branded a racist, a sexist, a homophobe, a capitalista, a hypocrite, a supporter of big corporations and insensitive to the poor. The left's speech code is the greatest impediment to honest discussion and solution creation in our society.

Keep it up Ted, Chuck, Hillary, Joe. You're doing a great job...

OK. I am at work and am frustrated with my own lack of accomplishment! There is a ton to do. How to stay attuned to the work is always a challenge. I am distracted by a hundred interesting things.
Just do it?

09-23-05 #2

OK. I am anxious to start. Today I listened to some of the Congressional Black Caucus meeting that was broadcast on C-Span. Among others, Charlie Rangel and Hillary Clinton spoke. It's always amazing to actually listen to what they say. They rail against President Bush for his failures to identify and help the poor black people in Louisiana. It's hard to get past the fact that this is a Democratic stronghold and has been for years. It's also, according to reports, pretty well known for a level of corruption that is... well... unacceptable.
The one thing that I agreed with them about was the voting identification cards that are being considered in some states. With all the goofy things we spend money on, the one thing that we should make available to anyone who wants it, is the unencumbered right of access to the polling place. That does not mean that I want everyone to vote. I actually prefer that people who do not think through and understand the issues, do not vote at all. I am not one who has a problem with our "dismal voting turnout". I like it. I want those to vote who have researched and understand the people and things that are on the ballot.
Anyway, Charlie Rangel told the story of walking the march with MLK. He says that he didn't want to, but was shamed into it. He is now grateful that he did. How will you feel later if you don't do the hard thing now when you are asked? That same message applies to conservatives. In fact, conservatives are usually busy raising their families. So we have to have people step out a little.
More later.

I want to make this blog a journal of thoughts and entries about current events. I imagine that it will have a pretty broad base to start with. (Politics, religion, music, movies, tv, law, sports in general, Lakers in particular.) Then I will see about narrowing my scope as I get comfortable with the process.
"Hangnail" refers to an irritating but minor affliction. That could be me.... Sorry.
